Collage Page

  1. I always have so many ideas but I can never bring them together to create one big one, making me frustrated most of the time leading to a freak out and most likely a hot flash seconds later.
  1. I always need food to think and write
  2. A good night sleep
  3. A very quiet area with no sound in order for me to focus
  4. Being able to be yourself in this world is hard, especially dealing with confidence and having to ignore those around you.
    1. I live by this quote; to leave your legacy, follow your dreams and not take anything or anyone for granted.
    2. It explains that we should not take life for granted, that we should follow our dreams and live each day as if it may be our last on earth.
    3. To move past your struggles and challenges and make a change in your life, or in this case, your final paper.
  5. Sometimes I am reading a paper or even writing my own and I am not sure where the source came from, making myself confused about the information and second guessing if it’s reliable.
    1.  I’ve learned how to adapt to those who will edit my paper, to see what the professor will grade me on and the strengths and weaknesses of my writing.
    2. Usually my first draft is terrible and so once it goes through peer review, others reading it and helping with organization I can make the final draft somewhat better.
    3.  I love when someone gives me positive criticism that I can use towards bettering my writing and making things work together.
  6. Similarly, I believe I perceive the world through two lenses when I am speaking differently around my friends compared to my parents or other adults.
    1. I never know where my ideas will bring me
    2. I am always interested in what happens after we die and why do people die so early
    3. I found myself focusing on what they mean
  7. Finally, the shape of the poem
    1. You should keep your head when everyone else is losing theirs
    2. Happiness is one of the greatest things in life
    3. One organization or person could help make this world a better place

As I looked over the way I write, I feel that the knowledge I have of the stages of my writing have become clear over the past couple years. I wanted to make my collage a symbol of something I do every time I write a paper. I realized I like to organize my ideas and make an outline for everything because if I didn’t, then my paper would be all over the place. Outlines are very helpful for me because they categorize main points, organize paragraphs in order to make more sense, and so that each paragraph can be developed thoroughly. I decided to use a rainbow of colors to represent my creativity as a writer, as I try to make things more interesting than just stating information in my papers. Each color represents a different meaning behind my writing purpose. The first point is a magenta color faded into pink which for me symbolizes femininity and mystery. I like to make my papers explore different feminine ideas if applicable and portray mystery in times where it could be used. The next paragraph is the color purple which fades into a lavender and represents sophistication and creativity as a whole. For me, I like to make things clear for the reader but also include interesting components that could make it more fun to read. The third paragraph is blue and I used it to show cleanliness and organization within the entire essay. For the fourth point, I chose green because it reminds me of a natural and fresh environment which is a necessity in being able to write with a clear mind. For the final paragraph, I chose red to stand for the stopping point or the conclusion of my essay. It reminds me of looking back at all of my information and coming to a close with it all by summarizing what the whole paper was about.

In writing the collage, I also wanted to incorporate different fonts. The cursive font represents all of my ideas coming together, as it is shown by being connected between letters. Since the cursive is in the subset ideas of the main numbers, it is used to show that all of my ideas are flowing together instead of being staggered throughout the essay. I also saw it as a way to represent that the subsets are more complex than the other font is. As a writer I used to be terrible at making my ideas connect so by using certain fonts, I remind myself to make those connections. The Oswald font, which is present just after the numbers, is more structured and formal than the cursive font. It is placed at the beginning of each paragraph or number because it is supposed to represent a main idea being more structured whereas the cursive font is used to show the flow and connection of my ideas. The numbers constitute each paragraph as its own new idea, and to make the outline clear that is the order in which the paragraphs will be written. The letters a, b, and c are used as subsets to the larger idea which is exactly what I do in preparing my essays. Making sure I include the details and smaller ideas into the larger idea helps me start my papers and advance my thoughts into a specific area. Whether or not I decide to use those points in the end, it helps me develop other ideas with supporting details.

After finishing the collage and looking over it, I was honestly surprised with how it turned out. Many readers of the collage may not be able to decipher the words or meaning of the colors and fonts if they do not read this reflection, but there could also be many different interpretations made. I believe that if you are able to make a simple yet creative essay and organize your ideas properly, then you will be set for a good draft to advance it onto the revision stage.
